Résumé : Paul Underwood 1941-
I believe like many artists, that paintings should not be talked about but
rather stand in their own right. However, here is a brief explanation of my
motivation.
From my earliest memories, to the present day, my fascination has always
been with faces and painting. On my early visits to the London Art Galleries
as a child, it was always to The National Portrait Gallery that I returned.
To this day, I still find the human face, by far the most interesting thing
on the planet.
Like many artists, I also have the desire to capture 'the moment in time',
in particular, those moments in time of which I am acutely aware and which
give me pause to consider.
Those memorable moments of enjoyment, whether they are in the intimacy of
my family, or the company of friends, in an enjoyable restaurant or at the
local 'Salle des Fêtes', a New Year's party or simply sitting on a beach at
sunset, all have the same effect. That is, to exclaim as I frequently do,
"This is what life is all about". The moments that make me value life.
